Des Plaines Funeral Home

Des Plaines Funeral Home was a funeral home at 1717 Rand Road.
In 1965 it was sold by owners John L. and Hazel Bond who operated Prairie Lee Paint. It was sold, annexed to the city, and Des Plaines Funeral Home was built around it. Notably the funeral home was also the local private ambulance service at this point. The funeral home included a community room that was used by various organizations for meetings including the historical society during its early years. By 1972 Forest Hospital was seeking to purchase the building for use as a handicapped workshop and adolescent treatment facility as well as overflow parking for the overcrowded campus. This was denied by the city due to objections from North School and neighbors. However the funeral home closed around June 1976 and was then taken over by Forest Hospital. In 2000 it was transferred to Maryville Academy with the rest of Forest Hospital and became the Catholic Charities facility.
